Have you ever encountered God in a way that surprised you? I had one of those encounters. I was having my prayer time and then I heard the words, “though he slay me.” I knew it was a scripture and so I began to look into the word. I was a little discouraged when I realized that it was in the book of Job. I mean no disrespect but Job is a book I tried to stay away from. The book of Job is one that put a little fear in me. This is not true anymore! I have encountered God in a new way and it is due to the written Word of God in this book of Job.

As I read these chapters in Job 40,41 and 42, I sensed God handing me keys to unlock stuff. I use the word “stuff” so that you can use it too. God in His amazingness opened my eyes to a way of seeing I didn’t realize I was missing.

In these chapters I will reference where God and Job are having a conversation. That alone grabs my attention! Job 40:1-2: “Then the Lord said to Job, ‘Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?’ Then Job replied to the Lord, ‘I am nothing; how could I ever have the answers (verses 4-5)? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.’ Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind: ‘brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. Will you discredit my justice and condemn me to prove you are right? Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his (verses 6-9)?’” The next chapter remains in this vein God continues to show who He is and inquiring of Job.

The last chapter is captivating. A powerful moment where Job comes into his proper place with God Almighty. Job 42:1-6: “Then Job replied to the Lord: ‘I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this who questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It was I; and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far to wonderful for me. You said listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in ashes and dust to show my repentance.’” The conclusion of this chapter is God blesses Job.

Do you know what really amazes me is that after God and Job are back in proper alignment, God then addresses Job’s friends that were in the wrong. The friends did not speak accurately about God and He was angry with them and yet He addresses Job first.

As I sat in my prayer room reading all of Gods Words of who He was and who Job was not, I sensed a reverent fear rising up in me. My problems and struggles began to seem so small and made God seem so very BIG!!! I found myself like Job going to my knees. I began to repent for coming out of my position before His throne and for thinking more of my problems and issues than acknowledging Him. A sense of His presence His power His peace overwhelmed me and I eagerly read the chapters again hanging on His every Word and reminding myself of the place that fits me best; at His feet in alignment with the creator of all things who Is and Was and Is to come!

It is well. It is good. It is His way and when I seek Him first everything else falls into place.
